GoPro enthusiasts will now be able to live-stream their action videos to an audience instantly. GoPro Inc. has announced an integration with Twitter Inc.-owned Periscope, allowing users to broadcast directly from their GoPro.
The news comes just two weeks after Periscope integrated with Twitter, allowing users to watch Periscope broadcasts without leaving the Twitter app.
To live-stream directly from your GoPro, you will need a GoPro Hero 4 Black or Silver camera. The broadcast functionality is currently only available for iOS (sorry Android) and will require an iPhone 5s or newer, using iOS 8.2 or later. While the functionality is only available for iOS users, everyone will be able to view the GoPro broadcasts.
How to live-stream your GoPro adventures via Periscope
- Switch your GoPro camera on > set it to video mode > enable Wi-Fi.
- Connect your iPhone to your GoPro’s Wi-Fi network. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > select your GoPro’s Wi-Fi network.
- Open the Periscope app. You can download the latest version of the Periscope app from the iTunes store.
- Tap the broadcast button at the bottom of the screen. Periscope will automatically highlight the new GoPro-inspired icon.
- Add a name for your Periscope, set privacy options and start live streaming your GoPro adventure.
- Once you are streaming your GoPro video, you can easily switch between your GoPro and iPhone cameras with a double tap on the screen to ensure you are constantly catching the best action for your video. Regardless of which view you are in, you will continue to see the on-screen chat on your iPhone.
- Alternatively, use the new lock button at the top of the screen, so you can stick your iPhone in your pocket and carry on with your adventure while the live streaming continues.
- While broadcasting to Periscope, your GoPro will continue to record your adventure to the microSD, allowing you to share it to other social networks at a later stage.
GoPro will be putting the Periscope integration to the test this week when the company will be live streaming from the X Games that starts on Thursday, January 28 in Aspen, CO. If you are a sport’s enthusiast, you can follow @GoPro #XGames for daily streams.
