Key takeaways from the Nimble Storage event | #DataStorage

After a bevy of applaudable product announcements this week, how is Nimble Storage positioned in the market?

At the Nimble Storage: The Power of Predictive Analytics event in San Francisco, the public learned of Nimble’s new plans leveraging old technology, and a fresh pipeline for hybrid and all-flash data solutions.

To condense the day’s revelations into a coherent picture, Jeff Frick and Stu Miniman, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, joined David Floyer, cofounder and CTO at Wikibon, on the evening of the Nimble Storage event.

Taking position for a lead

Floyer considered the announcements made at the event to be quite important. He pointed out how Nimble was leveraging the hybrid and all-flash data it had before to make use of these new technologies. One such innovation was the use of 3D NAND, vastly increasing the density of the company’s storage solutions.

Nimble is well-positioned on price, as well as in their ability to scale, Floyer said. By providing data services allowing integration with its storage solutions, Nimble was on a stronger path to the future, he said.

Stacking up against the big players

“There are horses on the track, and then there are horses preparing to be on the track,” Floyer said. Other companies and technologies are already in the game, he explained. New people on the track will have to come at it from a new angle. He was interested in manufacturers starting to put their own technologies into the mix.

The advantage of a flash provider like Nimble is that flash makes IT simpler. Although it’s a solution mainly for the storage area, Floyer said, it does reach into other parts as well. A private Cloud, for example, could integrate storage, service and networking all together. Nimble, he said, could be a very strong provider of storage capability in a true private Cloud.
