Parents beware: Data breach at Kiddicare

The life of a new parent can be rough, between the minimal sleep, the need to constantly keep an eye on the child, the constant barrage of often-contradictory parenting advice, and the data breaches. Actually, that last one wasn’t a problem until recently, but following a hack and data breach of the Kiddicare Ltd. website, it is now for many parents.

Kiddicare.com, a website specializing in supplies for babies and the parents of newborns, is the latest victim of a hack. As a result, customers names, addresses, and phone numbers have been stolen, although no financial information was put at risk, as credit and debit card information is not stored on the company system.

However, as The Mirror reports, customers have been receiving “possible phishing communication,” as text messages from supposed subsidiaries of Kiddicare.com have been going out to customer numbers. As such, Kiddicare is warning customers to be aware, and keep an eye out for any suspicious communications.

“Any personal information can be used in phishing attacks and scams and so you should be extra vigilant and be alert to any suspicious communication.

If you are unsure whether a communication is genuine, you should always contact the company the message is purporting to be from to confirm authenticity.”

If anyone receives a phishing text, they can report the number to the Federal Trade Commission and block the number.

Additionally, Kiddicare has reset all customer passwords, so the hackers cannot access the compromised accounts. However, they still have the email address and password, which means anyone who used a similar or identical password on other accounts should change those immediately.

The timing of this attack, coming right after Mother’s Day weekend, might seem a little ironic. Still, the last thing new parents need to worry about is getting phished, so Kiddicare customers should keep their guard up.
