How one company makes the cloud more secure | #NEXTConf
While technology is making leaps and bounds into the future, one aspect of programming is making its way to the forefront of top-of-mind issues: security. In the midst of open-source technology and cloud-based platforms, vArmour Networks, Inc. is working to increase cloud-based security.
Keith Stewart,VP of Strategic Markets and Business Development at vArmour Networks, Inc., talked with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Stu Miniman (@stu), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the Nutanix .NEXT Conference about cloud security.
Let’s talk security
Data security is a topic developers and programmers have always had to keep in mind, but as constraints become less defined, it’s also become a major topic in the boardroom. Security isn’t something that should hinder movement to cloud infrastructures; instead, it should be a reason to “make the cloud more secure,” said Stewart.
As data moves across infrastructures, vArmour helps primary controls be more resilient. Conversations have shifted from prevention to reaction, and it’s important that companies have a plan in place should a breach occur. There needs to be a response that has a fine granularity, Stewart pointed out.
Know your worth
It is important for companies to understand the value of the their data in a world where it has become so easily accessible. It’s about more than the internal value of data, but also how external individuals or companies value the data. Board members must think about how their data could be used malevolently in order to better understand how to protect it. In the past few years board members with cyber security skills have become a necessity.
They key to having a good process for data management is to make that data easy to understand. The software must be “easy to insert and operate” by any non expert user, said Stewart.
Into the future
More and more companies are moving to hybridized verticals and platforms, which makes changing out old code easier. It also leaves room for innovation in how those segments and stacks are moved securely. vArmour wants to ease the minds of enterprises when it comes to creating a safe and secure ecosystem.
Companies should feel confident that as they move forward, their core infrastructures are set up in such a way that the security processes in place can handle almost any situation.
