As technology makes more shifts and changes, it gets harder to determine where the value of an enterprise lies. Hortonworks, Inc. helps individuals and enterprises see where the real value is: in the data.
Arun Murthy, founder and architect of Hortonworks, talked with John Furrier (@furrier) and George Gilbert (@ggilbert41), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the Hadoop Summit 2016 about Hortonworks and the world of data.
There is an ongoing shift toward digital data for most enterprises. Previously, value came from the application that the data fueled; however, now the data itself is what’s most valuable for companies. Most enterprises today must understand that “the modern app is a data app,” said Murthy.
This means the processing of all that data has become paramount. It may even be time for enterprises to bring data processing into the balance sheets.
Data has become a permanent asset for enterprises, and as such that has changed how applications are viewed. With Hadoop, enterprises are able to run multiple apps with different containers concurrently. This means one datastream can be used as the foundation for multiple applications and purposes.
It’s no longer about the application; what’s important is the dataset. That allows applications to be more modifiable, which leads to more innovative possibilities.
