Windows 10 Anniversary Update freezes user’s PCs
Microsoft’s highly anticipated Windows 10 Anniversary Update has gone awry, with dozens of reports claiming that the update has left numerous PCs unusable.
Angry updaters have taken to Reddit in their droves to vent their frustration, and the general consensus is that while the latest version of the OS installs quickly and easily, problems occur after users attempt to restart their PCs.
Numerous complaints have been posted on Reddit, with users saying their PC just hangs after the update, refusing to load. In many cases, the same PCs refuse to recognize any input from the mouse or keyboard, or if they do, they just don’t respond to any commands.
A number of users have suggested disabling Secure Boot to fix the problem, while others have suggested more complex workarounds. As for Microsoft, it’s been unable to come up with any solution so far, other than to suggest users do a clean installation of Windows. It helpfully points users in the direction of these USB live media creation tools so they can get on with that.
However, some Reddit users say that their PCs still won’t load even after performing a clean install.
An alternative that should work is to roll back to an earlier version of Windows (like Windows 7), but of course that kind of defeats the point of upgrading to Windows 10 in the first place …
