IBM Edge 2016: How to watch theCUBE interviews live from Las Vegas | #IBMEdge

IBM Edge 2016 takes place from Monday, Sept. 19 to Thursday, Sept. 22 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with this year’s event designed to help attendees “outthink the status quo.” The sessions at IBM Edge will cover open innovations for the cloud platform, the future of cognitive business and more.

Once a storage-centric event, IBM Edge now spans the company’s mainframe, power and storage initiatives. Given IBM’s streamlined offerings in this area after selling off much of its hardware business to Lenovo, questions loom over Big Blue’s strategic direction in leveraging its remaining datacenter products to drive more Software-as-a-Service offerings in today’s cloud-first economy. Analytics has been a promising area of development to this end, as IBM continues to release vertical-ready solutions for its data-hungry artificial intelligence platform, Watson.

“IBM’s always been very thoughtful about its strategies, they’re very good,” said Wikibon Chief Analyst Dave Vellante. “Its strategy was easy when it had a mainframe monopoly, then it became a services-led company. With an established distribution channel (it kept Lotus Notes, storage, middleware and Platform-as-a-Service products alive), IBM is looking to monetize the services layer.”

Boosting its analytics prowess, IBM launched its Power Systems S822LC for High Performance Computing, earlier this month. Together with Nvidia Corp., the new system has been built specifically for artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced analytics use cases.
