The agile cloud: Reacting to market demands in real time | #OOW
As many enterprises make the shift to the cloud, others may be left wondering why such a big change is necessary. One of the biggest benefits received by companies that undergo this change is increased agility.
“If you see a change happening in marketplace but don’t have a supply to match it, you’ve messed up,” said Roddy Martin, VP of SC Thought Leadership and SC Cloud Product Marketing at Oracle. Knowing how to use the cloud and the benefits of doing so allows organizations to react in real time to market demands. This is why Oracle’s developments in the cloud are so important to understand, Martin said.
Martin was interviewed by John Furrier (@furrier) and Peter Burris (@plburris), hosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Oracle OpenWorld, taking place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA.
Reconfiguration: Analytics and visibility
But even once a business has shifted to the cloud, they need to know what data is worth looking at. Studies have shown the two most important focus points are analytics and visibility, according to Martin. With cloud-based analytics in place, companies are more able to adjust the fundamentals of their business based on what’s happening in the marketplace.
“The voice of the customer starts to count and dictates what we supply. We have to be agile to meet that need,” added Martin.
Reverse-engineering
Businesses are now asking themselves how to change the operating model and what capabilities need to be moved. They are beginning to reverse-engineer as the dominant consideration is changing from assets to data, Martin explained.
Some companies used to know half of their marketing was doing well, but they might not know which half. Now that everything is measurable, it’s much easier to know in real time what efforts are succeeding and what might not be doing so well, Marting stated.
“Those doing the consulting need to know what data is important and what data from the outside in is going to make things more marketable,” he said.
