Having completed its first full year as an independent company, how is Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.’s faring in a still competitive market for enterprise cloud?
This week’s HPE Discover 2016 conference in London, the company’s largest customer event, will offer clues to the progress and challenges facing the streamlined computing service provider. Kicking off today and running till Dec. 1, SiliconANGLE will be at HPE Discover 2016 London with exclusive interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE (* Disclosure below.)
In the past 12 months, HPE has sold its software holdings and merged its services business. In an $8.8 billion sale, HPE has sold most of its software holdings to Britain’s Micro Focus International plc. At the same time, HPE is merging its services business with Computer Sciences Corp.
Despite narrowly missing revenue forecasts during its fiscal fourth quarter earnings report last week, HPE executives announced the completion of all changes necessary to slim down and position the company for growth. HPE’s 2017 outlook will see the company focusing on hybrid IT, the Internet of Things and scaling up of its core data center businesses.
At its Discover 2016 London event, HPE will focus on its IoT initiative, which it calls Intelligent Edge. The growing consensus is that edge computing will play a large role in IoT. HPE’s acquisition of Aruba Networks Inc. last year has positioned it well in the market to compete against the likes of Cisco Systems Inc.
In addition to various HPE executives, other speakers at the Discover London event include Eric Brown, managing director at Accenture PLC; Sylvain Filippi, chief technology officer at DS Virgin Racing; Peyton McNully, chief information officer at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology; and Brian Shea, chief executive officer at Sogeti U.K. Ltd.
