MarkLogic’s NoSQL database platform lands on Microsoft Azure

NoSQL database provider MarkLogic Corp. hit a milestone of sorts Tuesday, announcing that its MarkLogic Enterprise NoSQL database platform is now available on Microsoft Corp.’s Azure cloud.

The company said there’s a growing need for agile database platforms in public cloud environments. It said MarkLogic Enterprise NoSQL database platform on Azure provides this kind of flexibility by giving users a “single, actionable 360-degree view of their data in the cloud,” enabling developers to build and deploy applications with fewer hassles. In addition, customers using MarkLogic on Azure can scale their applications and projects up and down more easily, without any downtime, ensuring maximum operational efficiency.

According to Joe Pasqua, executive vice president of products at MarkLogic, enterprises are keen to embrace the cloud so they can leverage its financial and operational advantages. However, he said many are unable to do so as they find their relational databases are not adaptable enough for cloud environments.

“They are discovering that relational database solutions are not flexible enough to manage and integrate the complex data types required for business-critical applications and projects,” he said.

Pasqua added that the company chose Microsoft Azure for security reasons too, as it’s the “most trusted, compliant cloud services provider,” with a wide range of global security certifications.

“We’re pleased to see MarkLogic make its NoSQL database platform available in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace,” said Nicole Herskowitz, Microsoft Azure senior director of product marketing. “In today’s on-demand economy where data agility and digital innovation are paramount, customers can now take advantage of MarkLogic’s platform to help them accelerate their digital transformation strategies in the cloud.”
