As Nutanix Inc. approaches $1 billion annual revenue thanks to an early start in hyperconverged infrastructure, how can the company maintain its momentum with specialized offerings?
Looking to answer this question and others, SiliconANGLE is at the Nutanix .NEXT Conference, taking place in Washington D.C., with exclusive commentary and interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE. (* Disclosure below.)
Nutanix’s shares soared 12 percent last month when it announced a 67-percent jump in revenue, to $191.8 million, for the third fiscal quarter ended April 30.
Nutanix got the jump on the hyperconverged infrastructure market and already offers its software on a range of Intel Corp.-powered servers from Cisco Systems Inc., Dell Technologies Inc., Lenovo Group Ltd. and Super Micro Computer Inc. It is rated by Forrester Research Ltd. as “the largest supplier” of hyperconverged infrastructure products.
Nutanix, however, faces strong competition from industry players building their own hyperconverged solutions, like SimpliVity Corp. that was acquired by Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. and Red Hat Inc.’s Hyperconverged Infrastructure that it announced last week.
Nutanix’s partner ecosystem continues to be crucial to its continued growth. IBM Corp. is its latest OEM partner, with the announcement last month that Nutanix would run its hyperconverged infrastructure on IBM Power Systems.
“Everyone is trying to eat [Nutanix’s] lunch; they’ve done quite well for themselves,” said Stu Miniman, senior analyst at Wikibon, owned by the same parent company as SiliconANGLE. “Nutanix understands that hyperconverged is a point technology, so they’ve expanded their own hypervisor. They keep adding to what they’re doing. They don’t position themselves as a storage company, and not even just a hyperconverged company. We’ll see how far they can go. They’ve been a fun company to watch.”
