Watch live: Exploring the software-defined storage market at Veritas Vision 2017

Happy to live in the cloud, Veritas Technologies LLC has built a competitive advantage around software-defined storage in an increasingly cloud-ready market.

Looking to explore this topic and others, SiliconANGLE is broadcasting live from Veritas Vision, currently underway in Las Vegas, Nevada, with exclusive commentary and interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE. (* Disclosure below.)

A leader in information management, Veritas Technologies’s edge is the fact that it isn’t tied to any specific hardware architecture and rather focuses its efforts on software. “Veritas is happy to live in a cloud world, happy to live in your data center,” said Stu Miniman, an analyst with Wikibon, owned by the same company as SiliconANGLE. The company was once again named a Leader in Gartner Inc.’s 2017 Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery Solutions, making it the 15th consecutive time.

Veritas unveiled a handful of products this summer aimed at enabling successful multi-cloud strategies for organizations. Such offerings make Veritas an attractive partner for top-tier cloud providers seeking to enhance their own cloud-native capabilities. Earlier this year, the company announced partnerships with tech giants Amazon Web Services Inc., Microsoft Corp., Google Inc. and IBM Corp.

It’s a growing market opportunity for Veritas, as Gartner Inc. reported accelerated growth in the backup and recovery software market last year, from 5.5 percent in 2015 to 7.1  percent in 2016, with revenue surpassing $6 billion.

A recent study by Veritas found that 86 percent of organizations worldwide are concerned that non-compliance to the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation could have a major negative impact on their business. As the GDPR’s May 25 deadline looms, Veritas announced last month the introduction of Integrated Classification Engine, a tool that will use machine learning to identify sensitive private data and help organizations comply with GDPR.

Keynote speakers at Veritas Vision include Veritas executives Bill Coleman, chief executive officer; Mike Palmer, executive vice president, chief product officer; and Lynn Lucas, chief marketing officer.

Other keynote speakers include Mark Russinovich, chief technology officer for Azure at Microsoft, and Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group Ltd.
