Alcide launches security platform to safeguard multicloud IT environments

Cybersecurity startup Alcide, a subsidiary of Alcid.IO Ltd., said today that its new network-based security platform designed to safeguard hybrid and multicloud environments is now generally available.

Alcide’s cloud-native security platform is designed to protect modern data center environments, including software containers, virtual machines, bare metal servers and serverless infrastructure.

The platform works by monitoring these infrastructures and providing DevOps and SecOps teams with real-time visibility into their data center operations. Using the platform, these teams can create and apply security policies across their information technology environments in order to quickly identify any activity not allowed in the network and close it down before any damage is done.

With its platform, Alcide is hoping to cater to the security needs of the growing number of enterprises adopting what’s called a multicloud strategy, which involves using a combination of different public and private clouds and on-premises infrastructure. The company points to a forecast from the analyst firm International Data Corp., which predicts that 85 percent of enterprises will have adopted a multicloud strategy by the end of this year, as evidence of the need for its platform.

Essentially what Alcide’s platform does is it helps to simplify network security monitoring as it eliminates the need for multiple tools to be used to safeguard each kind of infrastructure. The platform also eliminates what Alcide terms as “blind spots” between infrastructure and the applications running on it.

“Today, many enterprises find themselves operating data centers with extremely complex hybrid environments, but securing each one with point solutions that leave security gaps between them,” said Ranny Nachmias, founder and chief executive officer at Alcide. “Alcide takes a new approach as it was purpose-built to secure complex hybrid cloud environments.”

The launch of its security platform comes after Alcide landed $5.2 million in seed funding in a round led by led by Intel Capital and ELRON Electronic Industries Ltd. Design in December.
