Navigating sink-or-swim tech to survive modern computing
Technology is advancing so quickly that many businesses are struggling to tread water, much less get ahead of the competition. Some feel forced to take risks and innovate with systems they might not fully understand, while others disrupt themselves just trying to survive.
With so much noise from hoards of digital data, frequent software updates and machine learning systems that evolve on their own, it’s understandable that many companies find themselves feeling as if they’re at the precipice of a sink-or-swim moment.
“There’s so much pressure for people to change and constantly disrupt themselves, and that’s what we’re seeing,” said Keith Moran (pictured), vice president of Nutanix Inc. “And layer that all on top of a lot of legacy [applications]. So we’ve got oil and gas customers and big retailers, and when they show us the dependency maps of their applications, it’s incredible. How complex these are, and they want simplicity and speed. And how do they get out of that business of the tangled mess?”
Moran spoke with Stu Miniman (@stu), co-host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the VMworld conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. They discussed disruption, hyperconvergence, and infrastructure evolution. (* Disclosure below.)
Detangling tech
Nutanix finds itself in the epicenter of the tech shift, and looks to offer clients a way out of that tangled mess of dependencies. Despite having worked in many big legacy companies, Moran has never seen customers have passion for a company like they do for Nutanix.
Finding the pain point and offering a solution during this tumultuous time has given customers the direction and assistance they need, he explained. With Nutanix, they have the support to find a strategy that works for them without falling behind. If other companies are struggling to make heads or tails of the current technology, forming a strategic partnership with another company solving that very problem is a smart way to get and stay ahead, he added.
“I think that the innovation rate that we’re bringing, the support, the infrastructure [makes for] a great place to be because of how we’re serving what we call the underserved customer and having a big impact,” Moran concluded.
