Video leak reveals Google’s upcoming Pixelbook Go laptop

Yet more details are emerging about the hardware Google LLC will unveil at its New York product event next Tuesday.

The company is expected to debut the Pixel 4 and, with it, a successor to the 2017 Pixelbook laptop, the specifications of which leaked in full today via a video and photos released by 9to5Google. The publication got its hands on a nearly production-ready prototype that pairs a characteristic Google case design with significantly improved internals.

The Pixelbook Go, as it’s reportedly called, comes in a two-color chassis consisting of a slightly off-white laptop lid and a ribbed, pink bottom. Inside is a backlit keyboard with a dedicated button for launching Google Assistant.

Above it is a 13.3-inch touchscreen that will vary in fidelity depending on the model the user buys. The leaked prototype is described as being Full HD, which translates to a 1,920-by-1,080-pixel resolution. Higher-end Pixel Go models will reportedly feature a 4K monitor with roughly double the pixel density.

The internals will vary just as significantly between the different versions. The entry-level Pixelbook Go runs on an unspecified chip from Intel Corp.’s Core m8 line, which is designed for tablets and low-end notebooks, while the pricier models will reportedly ship with a Core i5 or Core i7 processor depending on the configuration. Users will have the option to order the laptop with 8 or 16 gigabytes of RAM and up to 256 gigabytes of storage.

Also included: a 2-megapixel front camera, two speakers, a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack and a pair of USB-C ports. Finally, Google has apparently equipped the Pixelbook Go with the same Titan C chip that’s included in its Pixel Slate tablet. The Titan C is a specialized integrated circuit that handles security-related tasks and protects the laptop’s Chrome OS installation from tempering.

The Pixel 4, the other device Google is expected to unveil next week, has also been extensively leaked. The rumors indicate that the phone will come in 5.7-inch and 6.3-inch versions, with both models’ displays  reportedly featuring an unusually high refresh rate that should produce smoother graphics.
