Call center software startup Aircall raises $65M

French call center software startup Aircall SE looks likely to be one of the beneficiaries of the COVID-19 pandemic after raising $65 million in a round of funding that brings its total amount raised to north of $100 million.

DTCP led the Series C round, which saw participation from new investors Swisscom Ventures and Adams Street, plus existing investors, including eFounders, Draper Esprit, Balderton Capital and NextWorld.

Aircall sells a cloud-based call center platform that helps customer support and sales teams field thousands of calls per day. It’s essentially a software-as-a-service product companies can use to replace their legacy call center systems. Customers get access to virtual phone numbers in one or more countries, while the system makes it easier to configure greeting messages, set up business hours and handle call queues.

The real magic happens when it comes to handling multiple sales or support calls. Aircall’s system makes it possible to ring multiple agents at once, or a specific person first of all, followed by a second person if the first isn’t available. It also provides an overview of all calls received, so they can be assigned and tagged.

Aircall can integrate with other popular business tools, including customer relationship management software such as Salesforce, Zendesk and Zoho. It also integrates with Intercom so agents can switch from a text conversation to a call with one click.

Aircall says it has seen dramatic growth in the use of its service over the past year, helped in part by the COVID-19 pandemic that has made it more important than ever for companies to connect distant teams with customers.

“Since COVID-19, Aircall has helped thousands of new and existing customers quickly transition teams to a fully remote workforce.” said Olivier Pailhès (pictured), co-founder and chief executive officer of Aircall. “We’ve seen an increase in companies critical to public well-being throughout COVID-19, including essential services, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and educational institutes.”

Thomas Preuss, a partner with new investor DTCP, said Aircall is unique in the way it seamlessly integrates with the traditionally complex world of telephony. “They’ve done a brilliant job helping companies modernize their tech stacks,” Preuss said.
