Commvault HyperScale X provides data management, protection across multicloud and hybrid environments
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many companies into high-speed cloud adoption. Speed and simplicity have become key to operations, and what makes cloud so powerful is its ability to streamline previously time-consuming tasks.
“Cloud without automation is not a cloud; it’s just infrastructure that’s put somewhere else,” said Sanjay Mirchandani (pictured), chief executive officer of Commvault Systems Inc. “It’s deep, deep degrees of automation that really bring cloud to life.”
Mirchandani spoke with Stu Miniman, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, as part of the Commvault FutureReady 2020 Digital Experience. They discussed data protection, cloud adoption best practices and Commvault’s new generation of intelligent data management products. (* Disclosure below.)
Intelligence is essential to effective data management
“This is not the time to experiment; this is not the time for esoteric,” Mirchandani said about companies in the process of rapid cloud adoption. “This is really about simplifying and working with the tried and tested.”
Helping speed and simplify the critical data management side of the cloud journey are a series of products created by Commvault. Announced during today’s FutureReady event is HyperScale X, a product that integrates the software-defined storage technology of recently acquired innovator Hedvig.
“HyperScale X is the embodiment of … the best of data protection from Commvault and the best storage subsystem to drive that from Hedvig,” Mirchandani said.
Commvault is “probably the most prevalent data protection technology in the public cloud,” Mirchandani added. The company’s strength is the result of deeply integrated layers of automation within its core technology, making it especially appealing to DevOps engineers.
“Everything in the product is callable through an API or a set of APIs. It’s rich, it’s got workflows and it’s multiprotocol,” Mirchandani said. “We can mix and match it across private and public cloud environments, and it’s all callable. It’s all programmable. It’s all automated, and in as much [or as little] as you want it.”
This ability to work across multiple environments and in multiple clouds with built-in artificial intelligence and machine learning is the true value of Commvault, according to Mirchandani. As customer’s undergo transformation, “it’s not just about moving bits,” he said. “It’s about optimizing the entire lifecycle of data from the point it’s created to the point you archive it.”
