Infosys launches Cobalt cloud suite with enterprise security and integration

Indian digital services and consulting company Infosys Ltd. today announced the launch of Infosys Cobalt, a suite of services, platforms and solutions for the cloud that are designed to help enterprise business with cloud-powered transformation.

The suite provides the tools needed for business users to adopt and adapt to cloud-first development and app delivery. The aim is to enable companies to scale up at the speed they need and create business models that can comply with global, regional and industry regulatory and security standards.

“Our clients are building cloud capabilities to gain a business advantage in increasingly competitive markets,” said Salil Parekh, chief executive of Infosys. “The future of enterprise cloud strategy will be shaped by three key factors – speed-to-market, innovation at scale and security by design – this is the foundational construct of Infosys Cobalt.”

Infosys believes that the availability of Cobalt will allow enterprise business to accelerate their adoption of cloud technologies by making it a seamless experience to move already existing infrastructure into the cloud.

For example, Edu Café, a business platform that uses ServiceNow to deliver contactless interactions for students in the time of social distancing uses Cobalt to provide cloud infrastructure for its computation, databases, backend management and delivery.

With Cobalt’s polycloud platform, which can bridge between multiple clouds, can help enterprise organizations optimize their cloud use performance, efficiency launch and deploy new services and deliver a seamless user experience in that environment. Cobalt’s cloud community engine is continuing to expand to include clients, partners, academia, gig workers and citizen cloud developers as well.

Enterprise users will also gain access to Cobalt Labs at Infosys, which will enable developers to prototype, secure and test cloud solutions.

For example, retailers can use the Lab to develop existing solutions to launch voice-based services, integrated through Amazon.com Inc.’s Alexa and rapidly co-create lookup interfaces for stores, products and orders in their specific context. With Cobalt, all of this can be built using existing integrations with well-known cloud services.

Infosys has forged partnerships with Microsoft Corp. and Johnson Controls to create smart buildings and spaces on Microsoft Azure that will even create a convergence between physical and digital infrastructure.

Regulatory and security compliance are also at the heart of Cobalt, since technical and financial governance and compliance are baked in, the company said. That’s important because enterprise solutions need assurance that security for mission-critical infrastructure can be handled, such as with strong data encryption and multifactor authentication.

Cobalt will also handle enterprise-grade protection against distributed denial-of-service attacks to keep systems online even when a company’s cloud infrastructure is targeted.

“Our clients operate in hybrid and multicloud environments,” said Infosys President Ravi Kumar. “They are taking full advantage of the public cloud from hyperscalers and are also building strong cloud capabilities on-premise. Infosys Cobalt, together with its rich ecosystem of partners, is amplifying enterprise cloud ecosystem, enabling them to find faster, more innovative and secure ways to respond to changing markets and drive business resilience.”
