When Snowflake Inc. went public this year, the move resulted in the biggest IPO debut for a software company in history. So, it is likely that the firm’s upcoming virtual Snowflake Data Cloud Summit 2020 — starting Nov. 17 — will attract substantial interest.
As the title indicates, a key focus of the Snowflake event will be on the data cloud, the modern data warehouse, and how it fits into the enterprise IT landscape.
“I’ve been in data warehousing for nearly 30 years now, and our dream has always been to be able to augment an organization’s analytics with data from outside their organization,” said Kent Graziano (pictured, left), chief technical evangelist at Snowflake. “That’s just been a massive pain in the neck with having to move files around to replicate the data. The data cloud is really giving our customers the ability to do that in a much more governed and seamless way.”
Graziano spoke with Dave Vellante, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. He was joined by Felipe Hoffa (pictured, right), data cloud advocate at Snowflake, and they discussed the value proposition that Snowflake has developed in the data management space and what participants can expect from the summit in November. Bringing the power of cloud computing to data management opens a range of possibilities for enterprises. This is the opportunity presented by Snowflake, which attracted Hoffa to join the company after many years with Google.
“Throughout my career at Google and my two months here, I’ve been talking with database companies that keep growing, keep moving to the next stage of their development,” Hoffa said. “They’re focused on data; they’re adapting processes and learning from it. There’s so much where data can help as we evolve the systems for the company.”
Snowflake’s Data Cloud Summit will offer dozens of sessions within eight tracks beginning with the North America kickoff on November 17. Sessions for EMEA, APAC and Japan will be held on separate days afterward.
“We’ve got a track on unlocking the value of the data cloud, which is really going to speak to the business leaders,” Graziano noted. “For technicians, we’ve got sessions on how to do the migration to Snowflake, modernizing your data lake, how to do analytics with data science in Snowflake. There’s going to be a lot for everybody to enjoy and consume and learn about this new space of the data cloud.”
