Crises such as the current pandemic can also be catalysts for innovative new ideas.
It was during the COVID-19 disruption that Randy Seidl (pictured), an experienced tech sales professional, conceived a plan to create a community of like-minded thought leaders who could help his profession. That insight led to the launch of Sales Community LLC in September.
“If you think of any other industry — restaurant, hotel, lawyers, landscape — they have user groups,” said Seidl, founder of Sales Community. “Even technology companies have user groups. But within the larger field of technology sales enterprise, there’s really nothing like this that exists. It’s crazy.”
Seidl spoke with Dave Vellante, host of SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming video studio theCUBE. They discussed Seidl’s research in determining whether his new organization would have value and the various resources that Sales Community will provide.
During the summer, Seidl spoke with a wide range of people to gauge interest in whether Sales Community would have value for the target audience.
“A big help for me was talking with 150 or so chief revenue officers, vice presidents of sales, and sales development representatives to get feedback from them in terms of product market fit,” Seidl recalled. “What’s missing, what’s needed, what do their teams need, what do they want? It was all a perfect storm. And, to be honest, without COVID I probably wouldn’t have created Sales Community.”
The stated mission of Sales Community is to provide the best resource and add value for technology sales professionals. The group will offer sessions on branding, strategic health, and personal goal setting, along with a chief marketing officer insight series.
“The tagline is: ‘Learn more so you can sell more,’” Seidl said. “We have a lot of different content areas, and we’ve got some great virtual events and interviews. It’s ultimately to serve the folks in the tech sales community.”
