Haystack debuts a modern intranet platform for remote workers

Self-styled communications and information hub provider Haystack Inc. is exiting stealth mode today with a modern intranet platform that it says can help enterprises to provide better security for their remote workforces.

Haystack said it’s launching its “employee experience platform” after raising $8.2 million from investors that include Coatue Management, Greycroft, BoxGroup and Day One Ventures. The company also counts angel investors such as Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter Inc., and Scott Belsky, chief product officer of Adobe Inc., among its advisers.

Haystack’s intranet platform is a restricted network that enables data to be stored, organized and shared within an organization. It helps centralize all of a company’s internal information, including commonly viewed resources, employee profiles and internal announcements, and makes it accessible only to authorized company employees.

Moreover, the platform integrates with essential software-as-a-service tools such as Slack, Microsoft 365, Workday and Confluence, enabling employees to work with these tools while keeping confidential company data secure. Haystack co-founder and Chief Executive Cameron Lindsay argued that these integrations are a key capability because the employee experience is broken at most companies today.

“The average employee switches between 30+ different, disjointed internal applications to find mission-critical information, connect with co-workers to feel included in company culture, or understand vital company policies and information,” Lindsay said. “With the culture of remote work becoming more prevalent, the number of systems companies are required to use will increase and only exacerbate the feelings of isolation and confusion many employees are experiencing.”

Haystack aims to eliminate that confusion. The company said its platform is designed for organizations with greater than 300 employees and can be setup within just days. Once up and running, it serves as the “connective tissue” for the business, unifying employee experiences such as onboarding, human resources, documentation and internal communications and helping them to attract and retain key talents.

“Haystack’s intuitive, user-centric design and best in class search make it a seamless experience for employees to learn, use and adopt into their daily routine,” said Haystack co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Haibo Zhao.
