Using AI-powered software to manage potential cyber threats

Cyberattacks are the number-one threat to the global economy, according to Jerome Powell, chair of the Federal Reserve.

Alacrinet Consulting Services Inc., an information technology consulting firm that specializes in cybersecurity consulting, is seeking to diminish digital insecurity globally and reduce the risk of cyberattacks.

“There’s thousands of these attacks happening every day, whether it’s in a local school district or a state government or an enterprise; even if you don’t hear about them, they’re happening,” said Brian Bouchard (pictured), chief executive officer and co-founder president of Alacrinet. “Adding to the risk that the cyberattackers pose is the complexity of the cybersecurity tools themselves. There isn’t a single solution provider or a single technology, that can ensure a company’s security.”

Bouchard spoke with John Furrier, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during IBM Think. They discussed Alacrinet, cybersecurity, IBM Cloud Paks and more. (* Disclosure below.)

Let the cloud fight back

Fortunately, there are services and software equipped with features that makes handling cybersecurity threats easier. One such security platform, IBM Cloud Pak, uses both automation and artificial intelligence to consolidate the user’s security monitoring and threat management tools into one streamlined console and data hub.

“The IBM Cloud Pak for security is built on a security platform that allows interoperability across various security tools using open standards,” Bouchard said. “Our customers look at it as a way to future-proof their investments and begin taking advantage of interoperability with tools integration.”

Combining all of these tools into one central dashboard reduces the time spent managing potential security threats while also combining all of the user’s data sources to enable attacks to be identified before they even happen.

“The problem with having all these disparate solutions that are all top in their category is that none of them talk to each other,” Bouchard stated. “We need to address that problem, because without that being solved, it’s going to compound the complexity of the problems.”

IBM Cloud Paks run on OpenShift clusters, making them accessible anywhere OpenShift is used.

“It’s portable. You can run it on Azure, IBM Cloud and AWS,” Bouchard said. “Cybersecurity is really a laggard in the information technology space as far as adopting open standards. IBM is leading that charge, and you’ll be able to have a force multiplier with the open standards in this space.”
