Messaging and streaming platform startup StreamNative today announced it has raised $23 million in new funding to advance its stream storage and messaging technologies.

Prosperity7 led the Series A round. Sequoia Capital also participated.

StreamNative was founded in 2019 by the original developers of Apache Pulsar. The funding is said to underscore a market shift from legacy messaging technologies to real-time data and streaming on Kubernetes. That’s the popular software for orchestrating the deployment of software containers, which in turn enable applications to run in multiple computing environments.

The company offers an enterprise-ready solution to help businesses make the transition to event-driven architectures. The StreamNative platform includes features, tooling and support that accelerate time-to-value and enables developers to focus on building applications instead of managing and maintaining complex systems and data services.

StreamNative’s platform is based on Apache Pulsar and enables companies to access enterprise data as real-time streams. Offering real-time, highly scalable and unified event streaming, the platform makes high-volume data available as an infinite real-time stream for consumption, according to the company.

The real-time stream provides a unified view of both historical and real-time data. The infrastructure allows users to build around a single central nervous system that transmits, stores and processes messages for their organizations’ different systems and applications.

Notable StreamNative clients include Tencent Holdings Ltd., BestPay and Iterable Inc.

“We originally built Pulsar to solve the global messaging and data challenges at Yahoo!, but it quickly became clear that what we were building could be used to define the future of event-driven and unified messaging and streaming for cloud-native environments,” Sijie Guo, co-founder and chief executive officer of StreamNative, said in a statement. “At StreamNative, we are building a turnkey, enterprise-ready platform to do just that.”

StreamNative also announced that it’s integrating so-called data lakehouse technologies such as Databricks Inc.’s Delta Lake and Apache Hudi to allow batch access to data stored in Pulsar. The company says that enables near-real-time access to data with industry-standard batch data processing tools such as Spark, Amazon Web Services Inc.’s Redshift and Presto and Trino. StreamNative is also building connectors for Apache Flink and Apache Spark to bring next-generation capabilities with unified batch and stream connectors.

Including the new funding, StreamNative has raised $29 million to date, according to data from Crunchbase.
