New Kasten by Veeam release improves experiences for Kubernetes DevOps teams

Data protection firm Veeam Software Inc. today launched a new version of its Kasten by Veeam data management platform with improved experiences that expand edge capabilities and broaden ecosystem support for data services and partner technologies.

Kasten K10 V4.5 offers a range of new capabilities with features for Kubernetes DevOps teams and administrators. Leading the list is an improved out-of-the-box experience that provides a complete set of tools to effectively deploy, manage, monitor and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments.

The inclusion of pre-integrated tools in the new release is said to help minimize time to market for new deployments. The feature offers the flexibility to select the best tools available in the broader Kubernetes ecosystem to avoid vendor lock-in. Coverage has also been added for Kafka, Apache Cassandra, K8ssandra and Amazon RDS.

Edge support and improved data security have also been enhanced in the release with support for secure and reliable data backup and recovery no matter where it’s needed. The addition of K3s and EKS Anywhere Kubernetes distributions allows enterprises to secure all edge applications from data loss, corruption or malicious attacks.

Kasten K10 V4.5 also offers broader ecosystem support with more features and capabilities to a broader number of users, de-risking and enriching customer environments while enabling them to take advantage of the latest Kubernetes advancements. The release is designed to make it easier for customers to access and purchase Kasten K10 supported solutions through a wider range of partner organizations and their marketplaces.

For Kubernetes clusters running on VMware vSphere, Kasten K10 V4.5 extends the value of customer’s existing Veeam investments with support for shared Veeam Backup & Replication storage repositories. Backup target support for additional storage types also now includes Cisco S3260 and HPE Apollo servers, ReFS- and XFS- formatted block storage, deduplication appliances, and SMB targets.

“Current Kubernetes data management tools often require extensive expertise and set up time when first deployed, and lack process automation for managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting within an environment,” Vaibhav Kamra, chief technical officer of Kasten by Veeam, said in a statement. “Offering improved capabilities for a smoother out-of-the-box experience and providing additional ecosystem integration helps meet those needs as container adoption increases.”

Veeam Chief Technology Officer Danny Allan spoke to theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s live streaming service, in May to discuss how Kasten strengthens data protection and recovery solutions for the hybrid cloud.

“The amazing thing about containers is that it allows you to connect multicloud, hybrid cloud, the edge to the core, and they’re designed for the consumption world,” Allan said. “And so, because they are designed for a consumption-based world, because they’re designed for portability across all of these different infrastructures, it only made sense for us to invest in the industry’s leading provider of data protection for Kubernetes, and that, of course, is Kasten.”
