Two Israeli media outlets have been hacked with a threatening message left in relation to the killing of an Iranian general two years ago.
The two targets were Jerusalem Post, an English language newspaper, and the Twitter Inc. account of the Hebrew language news site Maarvi. The hackers posted a picture of a fist firing a shell out of the ring with a red stone of a finger toward an exploded dome, according to a report today by Firstport.
“We are close to you where you do not think about it,” the hackers posted in both English and Hebrew on the hacked website and Twitter account.
“We are aware of the apparent hacking of our website, alongside a direct threat of Israel,” the Jerusalem Post tweeted. “We are working to resolve the issue.” The Post website was back up two hours after being hacked.

The hack came on the second anniversary of the death of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani (pictured). Soleimani was the head of the Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of the Iranian government. He was wanted for terrorism in the U.S. It was a U.S. drone strike that took Soleimani out. Iranian officials have previously pledged that Soleimani’s death would be avenged.
No hacking group has taken responsibility for the hack so far. The Times of Israel noted that Iranian and Iran-backed groups have been repeatedly accused of trying to hack Israeli sites in recent months, part of a years-long shadow war between Iran and Israel that has taken place on land, in the air and at sea.
NBC reported that the hack occurred on the same day that Yemen’s Houthi rebels seized an Emirati-flagged ship in the Red Sea. “Pirates of the Caribbean” in the 17th century is sadly the reality on the Red Sea in 2022 and has been for over a decade because of failed states such as Yemen and Somalia.
