AI Clearing debuts AI Surveyor to speed up solar farm construction

Artificial intelligence-powered construction monitoring firm AI Clearing Inc. believes solar power is will play a much more prominent role in the U.S. energy grid over the next decade, and its newest AI-based offering is designed to make that happen.

The company today announced the launch of its new AI Surveyor platform, which is designed to provide business intelligence and AI-powered predictive analytics to hasten the development of large-scale solar farms.

AI Clearing says such a platform is necessary because building “utility-scaled solar farms” presents a number of unique challenges. The main problem is the sheer volume of objects installed on large solar farms, with some developments having more than a million individual panels and several hundred thousand piles that must be installed, and later maintained, over sites that often encompass several square miles. With so many components across such sprawling estates, it’s almost impossible for engineers to identify problems and keep everything under control through manual checks.

AI Clearing, a company that specializes in AI analytics in the construction and infrastructure industries, said the new AI Surveyor platform will enable solar farm managers the ability to stay on top of construction and remain within budget, while maintaining energy output.

The platform automates solar farm construction surveying by managers with thorough reports every 24 hours, generated by its predictive analytics software. The reports rely on information from multiple sources, including geographic information system, drone data and design info, to provide daily updates on a solar farm’s progress as it’s being built, its adherence to design and its productivity when it starts running.

AI Clearing says timely construction is vital for solar farms, because the energy they generate has already been sold. Delays in handover could mean significant financial penalties being incurred for both the developer and the contractor.

The company believes there will be big interest in its platform, noting that U.S. President Joe Biden has set a goal for all U.S. power to come from non-carbon emitting sources by 2035.

AI Clearing co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Adam Wisniewski said the company has already seen big interest in its platform. The company is currently involved in a number of solar power projects and has already tracked the completion status of over two million panels, identifying more than 3,000 discrepancies in the process.

“Our AI model is trained on data from across the globe, so whether it is the desert of Abu Dhabi or snow in Canada, it can track progress across your KPIs with an accuracy of 99.98%,” Wisniewski said.
