By placing compute at the point of use, edge computing is emerging as a game-changer for real-time decision-making.
With data taking the driver’s seat at the edge, Innovative Data Processing Solutions Ltd. (aka Innovative Solutions) bridges the gap between infrastructure and revenue-generating business so that enterprises can focus more on applications, customers and maximizing profits, according to Matthew Park (pictured), director of cloud solutions architecture at Innovative Solutions.
“That’s where Innovative slides in … we help manage the AWS environment,” Park explained. “We have traditional on-premise people that know about deploying hardware and VMware to host EKS Anywhere. So our customers can just primarily and totally focus on their revenue-generating business.”
Park spoke with John Furrier, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the recent AWS Summit San Francisco event. They discussed how Innovative Solutions renders seamless operations at the edge and its partnership with AWS. (* Disclosure below.)
Innovative Solutions looks at the failback scenario even at the edge, because disasters are inevitable, according to Park.
“Our customers, even the ones at the edge, also want us to build out the AWS environment inside the Availability Zone because we’re always going to have a failback scenario,” Park stated. “If we’re going to deploy fintech in the Caribbean, we’re going to talk about hurricanes … and we’re going to talk about failing back into the AWS Availability Zones.”
As one of the fastest-growing AWS Premier Partners focused in SMB, Innovative Solutions renders edge services even in regions not covered by AWS, Park explained.
“For us, edge is anything outside of an AWS Availability Zone,” he said. “We’ve put Storage Gateway and Snowball in Panama … they’re running their fintech on top of AWS services.”
With crypto being housed at the AWS edge, Park believes blockchain technology is gaining traction at the edge.
“We have some customers actually deploying crypto, especially in the Caribbean,” he pointed out. “A lot of countries are choosing crypto to underlie parts of their central banks. So it’s up and coming.”
Given that so much data is being created by data factories on-prem, the edge eliminates the headache of transmitting petabytes of data to AWS by running computational workloads, according to Park.
“We don’t have to transition 10 to 12 petabytes of data into AWS,” he stated. “Today, we have over 15 AWS edge services, and those are all reactions to things that customers need inside their data centers, on location, or in the field, like with media companies.”
Industrial manufacturing is one of the best use cases at the edge, according to Park.
“Inside industrial manufacturing, we can pull in many of the AWS edge services … we can bring in private 5G so that all the equipment inside that manufacturing plant can be hooked up,” he pointed out.
