What to expect during AWS Summit New York 2022: Join theCUBE July 12
The next in a series of year-long Summit events by Amazon Web Services Inc. will take place on July 12 in New York City. The theme is “Scale … anything,” and AWS has devoted a great deal of its vast resources to support this proposition.
Weather prediction provides one example. As the largest private weather forecasting service, DTN LLC recently turned to AWS for high-performance compute services in scaling its data pipeline, accuracy, and timely delivery of critical information.
The forecasting initiative involved an ability to rapidly analyze petabytes of weather data using a combination of new Amazon EC2 HPC6a instances built into workloads and third-generation AMD EPYC processors. Insights from this technology can help maritime shipping in the optimization of routing and assist utilities in the development of predictive maintenance models for hardening equipment threatened by heatwaves or violent storms.
These kinds of use cases provide the backdrop as theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, covers the AWS Summit New York event on July 12. TheCUBE’s coverage will include interviews with AWS executives and partners who will discuss AWS’ role in building flexible and scalable applications in the enterprise. (* Disclosure below.)
Keynote from Amazon’s CTO
The featured keynote speaker at the AWS Summit New York event is Werner Vogels (pictured), chief technology officer at Amazon.com Inc. Vogels is an Amazon veteran, having joined the company in 2004 as a distributed systems researcher.
Vogels does not speak at every AWS event and appears in a keynote role usually when there is news to be announced. In December, Amazon’s CTO spoke at re:Invent and introduced M1 Mac minis as part of EC2, described a new Cloud WAN offering, and outlined plans for an additional 30 AWS Local Zones in the company’s ever-expanding datacenter network.
The Amazon executive also contributes blog posts throughout the year on building scalable and robust distributed systems under the aptly named heading of “All Things Distributed.” Vogels has recently written about quantum computing and automated reasoning, in addition to his annual “Tech Predictions” for this year. He identified AI-supported software development, cloud edge, the rise of smart spaces and architecture for sustainability as key trends to watch in 2022.
Vogels is well-known for wearing themed T-shirts on-stage during his keynote presentations, usually celebrating his favorite rock bands. Given the theme of July 12’s event, perhaps he has taken a liking to a progressive metal band out of Houston that just released their second album: Scale The Summit.
