Traceable AI adds eBPF data for increased API observability and visibility

Application programming interface security startup Traceable Inc. today announced the addition of extended Berkeley Packet Filter data to its platform.

EBPF is a technology with its origins in the Linux kernel that can run sandboxed programs in an operating system kernel. The technology is used to extend the kernel’s capability safely and efficiently without the requirement to change the source code or load modules.

For Traceable AI, the benefits of using eBPF come from the technology’s ability to pull deep data from the application environment. The combination of this data with Traceable AI’s technology delivers a nonintrusive, robust and highly efficient approach that provides customers 360-degree observability and visibility into all API activity, according to the company.

Traceable AI claims it’s the first company to use ePBF for API security, helping chief information security officers, DevSecOps and DevOps teams obtain deeper observability and visibility into APIs without additional instrumentation or latency. The service is said to advance companies’ API security posture radically.

“EBPF is critical for the most efficient API security at scale and is especially important for businesses with high-performance security requirements,” Sanjay Nagaraj, co-founder and chief technology officer of Traceable AI, said in a statement. “Think of it as a (web)space telescope, giving companies unprecedented views into their APIs without performance drawbacks.”

With the addition of eBFB, Traceable AI’s full API security platform services now include automatic and continuous API discovery, the ability to stop API attacks and the provision of actionable intelligence to assist with threat hunting and security decisions. Its AI’s solution allows organizations to discover, manage and secure their APIs at any scale.

Traceable AI was previously in the news on May 3 when it raised $60 million in new funding on a $450 million valuation to accelerate its growth by investing in its product development and research efforts. The company also announced new capabilities for its API Catalog on June 1 that allow organizations to overcome challenges with API discovery and risk assessment.
