WithSecure adds Microsoft OneDrive protection to its cloud-based security platform

WithSecure Corp., previously known as F-Secure Business, today launched a new layer of Microsoft Corp. OneDrive protection for its cloud-based security platform, WithSecure Elements.

Elements is designed for organizations that either want to offload security management to a trusted managed service provider or to managing security in-house. The service allows organizations to pick and choose the capabilities they need via different modules, including endpoint protection, endpoint detection and response, vulnerability management and collaboration protection.

The company argues that collaboration protection has become a big priority for companies. A recent WithSecure survey found that ensuring the security of cloud-based collaboration applications, such as Microsoft 365 and Salesforce Inc., was one of the five most common technical security priorities among companies. The same survey also found that securing workers amid the shift to remote work was a high priority for organizations – a trend highlighting the importance of securing the cloud-based collaboration tools that enable remote work.

The new feature announced for WithSecure Elements is Microsoft OneDrive for Business protection. The WithSecure Elements Collaboration Protection solution extends existing advanced protection for cloud-based Microsoft Corp.’s Exchange Online and Microsoft SharePoint Online services by autonomously analyzing files and leveraging real-time threat intelligence and multistage content analysis. Files are scanned and analyzed as they are uploaded to OneDrive continuously, including whenever they are modified.

Files perceived as malicious by WithSecure Elements Collaboration Protection are run and analyzed in a secure, isolated cloud sandboxing environment. Any malicious content discovered, such as viruses, trojans, ransomware and other malware, is detected and blocked or removed.

“The adoption of cloud-based collaboration tools is now in full swing and is quickly becoming essential for many companies. However, the cloud is a very different environment and many organizations have yet to adjust,” WithSecure Head of Products Leszek Tasiemski said in a statement. “The popularity and lack of security around these tools make them an attractive attack vector for adversaries, which is a significant concern for companies.”

Microsoft OneDrive for Business protection is automatically included in all WithSecure Elements Collaboration Protection subscriptions.
