Driving innovation: Cloud transformation at scale and how companies are strategizing their journeys

Digital transformation and cloud migration are among the biggest enterprise computing trends today.

But while some companies have their entire operations in the cloud continuum, others have seemingly dragged their feet through its nascent stages or haven’t even dipped their toes into the cloud waters at all.

“I’ve been seeing it over the years, but we all know IT and business back then were very much kept separate,” said Dominique Bastos (pictured), senior vice president of cloud at Persistent Systems Ltd. “IT made the decisions, not in a vacuum, but almost in a vacuum. Now, companies know it’s necessary and have embraced it.”

Bastos spoke with theCUBE industry analyst John Walls at the recent AWS re:Invent conference, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed cloud transformation at scale and how companies across disparate verticals strategize their journeys to drive innovation. (* Disclosure below.)

Providing value through experience

Persistent Systems has existed for over three decades, providing digital engineering solutions and enterprise software engineering services. Today, the company has more than 22,500 workers and a presence in over 18 countries.

Bastos’ background in data engineering allowed her to fit seamlessly into the new role at Persistent Systems.

“I was with AWS for almost seven years before recently joining Persistent,” she explained. “And it almost felt like such a logical transition in terms of bringing what I’ve seen in my entire career of interacting with customers and businesses to what Persistent can provide as people are looking to make their journey to the cloud, whatever stage they might be at.”

As SVP of cloud, Bastos focuses on Amazon Web Services Inc. and its cloud offerings. But at the same time, Persistent does not dictate to its customers what tools to focus on but rather works with them to achieve their transformation goals through whichever route works best, according to Bastos.

“We help customers simplify their cloud journey and remove the complexity,” she said. “There’s training programs that we are aligned to with AWS, so there’s upskilling of development teams, application developers. We collaborate from the top down with executives to look at the resources that they have available. You’re not just assessing what needs to be lifted and shifted or refactored or rearchitected; you’re looking at all these applications that are going to move to the cloud.
