New Vulcan Cyber research team focuses on cyber risk mitigation and vulnerability remediation

Software security startup Vulcan Cyber Ltd. today announced the launch of the Voyager18, a new research team focused exclusively on cyber risk mitigation and vulnerability remediation intelligence.

Extending on Vulcan Cyber’s ability to orchestrate risk mitigation across the entire vulnerability lifecycle, Voyager18 will provide vulnerability mitigation intelligence as a service to Vulcan Cyber customers and the cyber industry. The Voyager18 team aims to curate the best fixes, remediation paths and mitigation strategies for thousands of vulnerabilities and common vulnerabilities and exposures.

Along with its launch, Vulcan Cyber has also released free services for security operations, vulnerability management and security analyst teams, VulnRX and MITRE Mapper. The two services will include much of the Voyager18 team output and are freely available for public use with no registration required.

VulnRX is claimed to be the only free, curated database of vulnerability remediation intelligence. It includes fixes and workarounds for more than 4,000 vulnerabilities and CVEs. MITRE Mapper connects vulnerabilities to relevant MITRE ATT&CK tips and techniques for rapid and effective remediation action.

“Traditional vulnerability identification and prioritization isn’t enough to defend against modern threats,” Yaniv Bar-Dayan, co-founder and chief executive of Vulcan Cyber, said in a statement. “Tens of thousands of vulnerabilities, combined with rapidly shrinking remediation windows, make it close to impossible for cybersecurity teams to stay ahead of the crush and reduce vulnerability risk without help.”

Bar-Dayan added that the Voyager18 team and the VulnRX and MITRE Mapper services “provide vulnerability remediation intelligence to the cyber community” as part of a goal “to eliminate the gap between cybersecurity teams and their counterparts in IT, CloudOps and DevOps.”

Teams that already use risk-based vulnerability management or vulnerability prioritization technologies, such as Cisco Kenna VM, Tenable Inc. or Qualys VMDR, can leverage the free services to augment and accelerate vulnerability remediation by enhancing collaboration across information technology and security teams.

Vulcan Security is a venture capital-backed startup that has raised $35 million to date, including rounds of $25 million in March 2021 and $10 million in June 2019. Investors include Ten Eleven Ventures LLC, YL Ventures LLC, Dawn Capital LLP and Wipro Ventures Ltd.
