Unlocking the power of data: Analyst keynote insights live from QlikWorld
Harnessing the power of data-driven outcomes continues to be top of mind for today’s organizations.
How can companies put data first to deliver outcomes? And how will data integration, visualization and data-driven insights further transform business landscape?
“The world is very application-centric right now … but we’re shifting to a data-centric world,” said industry analyst Dave Vellante (pictured, right). “You’re now going to see the business logic more embedded into the application or into the data. In other words, data apps.”
Vellante and analyst Lisa Martin (left), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, kicked off theCUBE’s coverage of QlikWorld 2023 in Las Vegas. They dissected the fascinating world of data integration and analytics, including QlikTech International AB’s transformation from a visualization company to a data integration powerhouse. Data integration: The key to unlocking value
Data integration is paramount for organizations aiming to extract value from their data, as it consolidates disparate data sources into a unified, coherent structure. This process enables businesses to gain deeper insights, make data-driven decisions and improve overall operational efficiency. By breaking down data silos and facilitating seamless access to relevant information, data integration empowers organizations to capitalize on their data assets, ultimately driving innovation and fostering a competitive edge in an increasingly data-driven world, according to Vellante.
“When you have 650 data elements, that’s probably going to multiply to 650,000 over the next 10 years, you’ve got to figure out how to make all these things work together. And it’s a real challenge,” he said. “So, data integration, which is really what Qlik is all about, is part of that big challenge.”
Qlik’s strategic acquisitions, including its plan to acquire Talend Inc. — and the industry’s shift from an application-centric to a data-centric approach — highlights the importance of data integration in unlocking value for organizations. As companies strive to democratize data and enhance data literacy, Qlik’s expertise in data integration will help shape the business landscape and enable new opportunities for growth and success.
“What they’re able to help companies do in terms of extracting value from data, moving it to where it needs to be, getting it into the right hands so that people across companies … can actually drive insight from that in real time, which is what we all expect these days, and take action,” Martin said.
Data literacy is another hot topic, with discussions around enabling people across organizations to become data literate to extract value from data in real time. While business users are usually highly data literate, organizations aren’t because of the high volume of disparate data. The key is to improve organizational data literacy to facilitate data democratization across organizations.
“Nobody ever did well by looking in the rearview mirror,” Martin said. “You need to be looking forward … to act on data in real time, enabling people across organizations to become data literate so that they can enable that democratization across organizations.”
Looking ahead: The era of multiplied innovation
Vellante and Martin also touched on the concept of the era of multiplied innovation, where the time to create new solutions is significantly reduced. Vellante shared his thoughts on the future of the data-driven world, stating that a shift in platforms and hardware might be necessary for businesses to truly harness the power of data integration.
As data becomes increasingly central to business decision-making, organizations that prioritize data integration and literacy will be better positioned to succeed in this rapidly evolving environment, theCUBE analysts concluded.
