Unlocking the future of media distribution and monetization: Ateliere’s cloud-based approach

In the rapidly evolving world of media, cloud-native solutions are providing companies with the agility, efficiency and scalability needed to stay ahead.

As the number of media versions and potential distribution endpoints continue to increase, Ateliere Creative Technologies Inc. is focusing on solutions designed to address these challenges head-on. Organizations are asking for help in reinforcing business needs as they move to the cloud. One of the big media business needs is faster time to return on investment, according to Eric Carson (pictured), chief revenue officer of Ateliere.

“We built a system that fully understands that we’ve got an exploding version problem in the industry,” Carson said. “Titles have lots of versions and lots of potential distribution endpoints. And, if we start that way in a media supply chain system, then we’re prepared for the distribution issues that will come up later on downstream.”

Carson spoke with theCUBE industry analyst John Furrier at the “Optimize Your Media Supply Chain and Increase Velocity With AWS” event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how Ateliere’s cloud-native media supply chain solutions are helping to transform the industry. (* Disclosure below.)

Simplifying operations and scaling with the cloud

Ateliere’s cloud-native solutions enable companies to auto-scale and run their platforms cost-effectively, according to Carson. The company’s proprietary machine learning algorithm, FrameDNA/Deep Analysis Video Deduplication, consolidates duplication across incoming versions of a title, reducing storage costs by 70% or more as organizations move to the cloud.

“There’s a no-code environment available to [our customers] to define the delivery endpoints,” Carson said. “All of the metadata collection, the media collection, the metadata transformation, the media transcode, the delivery instructions are all in one single package template that’s transportable.”

The company’s partnership with Amazon Web Services Inc. has been instrumental in providing a mature and ever-evolving toolset, as well as simplifying connections with other supply chain partners. The operational impact of these solutions is profound, allowing them to be tailored to the needs of both small businesses and large enterprises, streamlining workflows and allowing operators to focus on addressing exceptions in the supply chain, Carson explained.

“A cloud-native, serverless environment like Ateliere’s Connect platform gives our customers the ability to auto scale and run their platform in a very cost-effective manner,” he said. “The Ateliere solution was built to be effective in days and weeks, not months and years.”

Collaborating with industry partners

Many of Ateliere’s customers choose to integrate AWS Professional Services as part of their projects, with Amazon EventBridge serving as the backend event bus. While some clients opt for alternative systems, the process remains swift and efficient. Ateliere prides itself on the short lead time of its projects, taking only a few weeks to complete, with the longest lead time being eight weeks, according to Carson. Many companies are even able to get their systems up and running within a matter of days.

“Our platform is designed to scale from a very, very small customer … to an enterprise media shop, like a film studio that’s able to throw hundreds of people at their distribution operation or thousands of people worldwide,” Carson said.

Ateliere works closely with partners like Commerce Fabric Inc., Ubiquiti Inc. and Rightsline Software Inc. to ensure that all aspects of the media supply chain are covered. This collaboration extends to integration with other partners in the AWS ecosystem, offering the enterprise an easy-to-use solution that can be up and running quickly.

Several key pain points that Ateliere addresses include:

  • De-duplication: Reducing the cost of moving media archives to the cloud.
  • Simplifying packaging and distribution operations: Replacing manual processes with streamlined automation.
  • Enabling sales and licensing teams to easily access and understand available options for specific titles.

“Long-tail monetization continues to be the name of the game to unlocking the value of some of these larger archives around the world,” Carson said. “That does mean more distribution endpoints, and they’re only cost-effective if I can package and deliver them in a cost-effective way. Having something that lowers my cost of packaging and distribution down to that cost of a sandwich really helps me get to a, ‘I now see how we can make money there.’”

As the media industry continues to expand and diversify, cloud-native solutions, such as those offered by Ateliere, will be increasingly critical for success. With their ability to optimize storage, simplify operations and provide better visibility into available content, these solutions are unlocking the full potential of media companies worldwide, Carson concluded.
