DeepBrain AI uses virtual humans and generative AI to automate job interviews

DeepBrain AI Ltd., a South Korean video synthesis startup that creates artificial intelligence-based virtual humans, today announced a new capability called AI Interview that can automate job applicant interviews for recruiters.

The new offering combines DeepBrain AI’s generative AI video technology with OpenAI LP’s large language model GPT-4 to create an AI-powered interviewer that can engage job applicants in question and answer sessions to weed out candidates for face-to-face interviews with real humans.

DeepBrain AI said customers can use AI Interview to create a realistic AI avatar that best represents their company, then create a basic script for the interview using its text-to-speech functionality. The AI-powered interviewer will then be ready to engage with human job applicants in a video call-style interview, asking them the basic questions as stipulated in the script, with intelligent follow-up questions that are based on the candidate’s responses.

Instead of manually creating questions, the AI algorithm can scan candidates’ resume to generate a list of relevant and tailored questions, based on their experience and the exact nature of the positions they’re applying for. Once the interview is complete, AI Interview can then generate a concise summary of a candidate’s performance for quick reference.

DeepBrain AI said the AI Interview tool is designed to streamline the process of scheduling job interviews while saving time for busy recruiters. Rather than trying to arrange a time for an initial Zoom call with candidates, companies can simply send them a link to participate in the initial interview at any time. It eliminates the need for recruiters to go back and forth suggesting dates and times for an interview.

One obvious benefit of this is that companies can interview many more candidates than would be possible with human recruiters. Then, recruiters can simply review the summaries of each interview to decide who to follow up with. The service supports multiple languages too, automating interviews in English, Chinese, French, German, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish at launch.

DeepBrain AI Chief Executive Eric Jang said Interview AI is an extremely promising application for generative AI because the initial candidate screening process is both time-consuming and labor-intensive. However, it’s also vitally important that companies identify the best talents from all of those who apply for a position, he said.

“Prior to the economic downturn, the average open position attracted 250 resumes and since most human resources professionals wear a few hats, that meant most resumes only received around six seconds of attention,” he pointed out.

With AI Interview, companies will be able to ensure that all applicant’s resumes are reviewed thoroughly rather than given just a cursory glance, eliminating initial human bias. “AI Interview helps speed up the screening process,” Jang said. “It ensures that the most qualified candidates are progressed through the stages while removing the need to juggle schedules.”
