Tackling endpoint’s common attack vector: How Navan uses CrowdStrike EDR

Cybersecurity threats loom large in today’s digital landscape, making the safeguarding of endpoint security even more important. Common breaches often originate from endpoint vulnerabilities, particularly through avenues like business email compromise and multi-factor authentication bypass.

Since Navan Inc. was looking for the best-in-class technology on how to constantly mitigate risk factors at the endpoint, the travel and expense management platform chose CrowdStrike Holdings Inc.’s endpoint detection and response, deploying products, such as Falcon Insight and Falcon Complete, according to Prabhath Karanth (pictured), vice president and global head of security and trust and chief security officer at Navan.

“We are in this mode of constant risk reduction, and making the cost of an attack as expensive as possible,” Karanth said. “We are constantly looking to move the needle from an endpoint perspective, from a cloud perspective, from an application security perspective. We looked at the players in the market, and I have to say the CrowdStrike EDR product easily tops everybody there. We expanded the relationship to Falcon Complete, and now I’m looking at the cloud offerings and so on and so forth.”

Karanth spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Lisa Martin and Dave Vellante at the Fal.Con event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how Navan is enhancing endpoint security using CrowdStrike EDR, as well as how the platform deploys technological innovations, such as generative artificial intelligence. (* Disclosure below.)

Generative AI is at the heart of Navan

With gen AI emerging as a cutting-edge technology, it is heavily embedded in Navan’s operations. For instance, it uses this innovation to streamline developers’ work and tackle security challenges, Karanth pointed out.

“We were actually the first travel and expense management company to adopt this technology,” he stated. “Beginning of this year, we released a virtual assistant called Ava Chatbot to support our customers using generative AI technology. In addition to that, our developers also use this technology to build, test and fix code as well.”

Given that the world of travel has changed, as evidenced by evolving consumer habits, Navan has kept its eyes on the goal of enhancing the user experience, according to Karanth. This includes heightening security.

“Navan, the focus has always been on the user,” he stated. “It was initially started as a travel tech platform, and then we went out and built a payments platform to kind of offer a single pane of glass to our customers with travel and payments.”
