VMware integrates security and operational efficiency into end-user computing
As hybrid work continues to be the norm in the post-pandemic era, enterprises have to grapple with the reality of dealing with the complexity of multiple users and workloads.
Based on a renewed focus on end users because they are no longer confined in office spaces, VMware Inc. offers seamless end-user computing through enhanced experience, operational efficiency, management and security, according to Shankar Iyer (pictured), senior vice president and general manager for end-user computing at VMware.
“For enterprises, I think there are three problems they’re all struggling to solve,” Iyer said. “One is, how do you ensure that this collection of users has the best possible experience? The second is security, you’ve now opened cybersecurity risks all over … and then the last thing, which is how do you efficiently manage it? You’ve got to manage it with the ultimate operational efficiency.”
Iyer spoke with theCUBE industry analysts John Furrier and Rob Strechay at VMware Explore 2023, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how VMware is revamping end-user computing. (* Disclosure below.)
Artificial intelligence is important in end-point computing
As artificial intelligence continues to make airwaves, organizations are finding themselves in a rush to be AI-enabled. This cutting-edge technology also seeks to be a game-changer in the end-point computing sector through various solutions, such as automation, Iyer pointed out.
“AI has a huge impact to this space because it’s going to automate things better,” he said. “Second, it’s going to let you get insights on the fly that will take on you forever, which is so important in the end-user computing space.”
Generative AI plays an instrumental role in streamlining digital operations in end-user computing. This will be helpful in making the sector more engaging, according to Iyer.
“I think generative AI, in my opinion, is tremendous applicability in sort of this end user space at large,” he pointed out. “The notion of AI comes in at large and gen AI of course helps you build far more sophisticated models to get your context and remediation. The next thing that happens, I think is it simplifies the role of this administrator.”
By offering a well-architected end-user solution, VMware ensures that key issues, such as experience, security and management are amicably addressed, according to Iyer. This is because they are interrelated and have to be addressed in unison.
“It’s an enterprise level complex environment,” he noted. “These three things I talk about, management, security and experience, they’re not point solutions; they’re integrated solutions. If you don’t have your devices appropriately managed, you cannot address security.”
To empower today’s diverse workforce, VMware offers solutions through its Anywhere Workspace platform. This leads to a secure and frictionless experience, according to Iyer.
“What we are focused on is providing this sort of foundational platform that we call Anywhere Workspace that addresses these three issues,” he noted. “How do you provide great foundational management? How do you ensure fantastic delivery of apps and a great experience? How do you address security? We are the market leaders for unified management and security on endpoints.”
