What to expect during the “Elevate Your Multicloud Experience With Dell APEX Navigator” event: Join theCUBE Nov. 20
Earlier this year at its annual Dell Technologies World conference, Dell Technologies Inc. debuted broad upgrades to its APEX portfolio. As a part of those upgrades, Dell said it sought to provide flexibility and control over where critical data resides by demonstrating how customers could deploy storage software in public clouds of their choice.
To help facilitate that, the company introduced a software-as-a-service application called APEX Navigator for Multicloud Storage. One could think of it as an orchestrator that can handle the complexity of cloud that customers may have, according to Magi Kapoor, director of multicloud product management at Dell.
“This is a place, a centralized control plane, where you can see all your assets across everything, whether you are doing it on-prem, in co-location, on edge or even in the public clouds,” Kapoor said during Dell Technologies World.
So, what’s the latest for Navigator since that event? And how is Dell APEX supporting customers through hyperscale integrations to deliver a consistent experience on-prem for interoperability and data mobility?
Those questions and more will be explored by theCUBE industry analysts Dave Vellante and Rob Strechay as they talk with industry professionals about what comes next. Looking ahead
In its second fiscal quarter, Dell smashed expectations for revenue and earnings, tied to strong demand for servers customized for artificial intelligence workloads and an uptick when it came to demand from small and midsized businesses. It was heartening to see sequential growth in Dell’s PC and infrastructure revenues given disappointing sales of client PC devices in previous quarters, according to Charles King, chief analyst at Pund-IT Inc.
“It wouldn’t be appropriate to call it a trend yet, but it could well be an indicator that enterprises may be ready to be more aggressive in their IT investments,” King said in August.
Dell has often pointed to the business value of its APEX multicloud and as-a-service solutions, writing that interviewed APEX customers had an enterprise profile, with an average employee base of 28,627 and annual revenue of $9.96 billion. IDC calculated that study participants would, on average, incur 39% lower costs over three years, equating to a savings of $5.38 million per organization, or over $18,000 per 100 users, according to the report.
“On average, study participants reported spending almost $1.5 million per year less with APEX to run equivalent workload and application environments for their businesses, which reflects a 39% cost efficiency,” the report reads.
Future of APEX Navigator
Since Dell Technologies World, there have been several significant changes at the company. Dell announced new advisory services for Microsoft customers in mid-July and acquired the venture-backed AIOps startup Moogsoft Inc. later that month.
Dell then said it would expand its APEX portfolio with a new family of products for on-premises deployments of Microsoft Corp.’s Azure Cloud, as well as extend its APEX Block Storage to be deployed in Microsoft Azure, a move that followed a trend away from a cloud-first mindset and toward a more balanced approach.
“Companies and organizations that we talk to are really taking a hard look at where they place their applications going forward, not just going cloud-first or cloud-only,” Strechay said. “They’ve backed way off that strategy. They are looking at colocation, and a lot of on-prem again is becoming more in vogue for those cloud-native apps.”
Various questions remain to be explored in the coming weeks, including what role APEX Navigator plays in supporting customers through hyperscale integrations to deliver a consistent experience on-prem for interoperability and data mobility. There’s also more to explore regarding solutions for streamlining multicloud management.
