Tufin expands security solutions portfolio with AKIPS acquisition

Security policy management company Tufin Software Technologies Ltd. today announced that it has acquired network monitoring solutions AKIPS Pty. Ltd. for an undisclosed price.

Founded in 2014 and based in Brisbane, Australia, AKIPS offers scalable network and infrastructure monitoring software delivered as a turnkey software appliance. Claimed to be one of the world’s fastest networking software solutions, the company platform is designed to keep urgent issues and faults away from helpdesks.

With AKIPS, users can track their network using Simple Network Management Protocol, traps, syslog and ping, visualize traffic paths using NetFlow, and trace connections between core devices and edge ports with symmetric multiprocessing. A configuration crawler creates backups and compares the historical configuration of key devices with a focus on not overwhelming the network.

Alerting and reporting functionality includes the ability to create custom status alerts and be notified of critical network events. Users can aggregate alerts into device, event, and interface dashboards and harness table and graph reports to summarize the most relevant data.

AKIPS comes into its acquisition with more than 250 customers and product coverage of more than 90 vendors, including Fortinet Inc., Palo Alto Networks Inc., Check Point Software Technologies Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc. For Tufin, AKIPS is said to create a differentiated offering in the marketplace, with complementary solutions that give customers the tools they need to take full control of their security environments.

“Enterprise IT teams are being asked to do more and more every day – which requires information and automation to accomplish,” said AKIPS Chief Executive Mark Birkinshaw. “By teaming with Tufin, our customers can take advantage of the industry’s top network security policy automation technology to answer these challenges.”

AKIPS is a rare breed of startup, having never raised venture capital funding. The company was bootstrapped since being founded and has grown off its income — something not unique to Australian startups but rarely heard of among similar companies in the U.S.

“AKIPS’ award-winning network monitoring solution will strengthen our ability to provide customers with a comprehensive look at their operations, helping to speed discovery and resolution time,” said Tufin CEO Ray Brancato.

Tufin was itself acquired for $570 million back in 2022 by Turn/River Management LP. Today, Tufin has more than 2,900 customers across various industries, with a goal to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of security operations by extending visibility and compliance readiness.
