Ruth Sun and David Kinlough talk to theCUBE analyst about enterprise mobility. EMERGING TECH

IBM and Samsung SDS transform enterprise mobility with zero-touch technology

A change is underway in the realm of enterprise mobility.

The partnership between IBM Corp. and Samsung SDS America Inc. has led to Zero Touch Mobility, a transformative approach that promises to redefine the way enterprises manage mobile infrastructure. With cutting-edge AI technologies, seamless integration and a relentless focus on efficiency and security, IBM and Samsung SDS are aiming to usher in a new era of mobility management.

“You see all of these cloud transformations; you see everybody going from old systems into brand new systems,” said David Kinlough (pictured, right), head of division – solution sales at Samsung SDS. “Mobiles are still being treated like BlackBerrys. It’s the exact same infrastructure, exact same people, exact same processes … and we believe the reason for that is that the support burden on mobile is very high.”

Kinlough and Ruth Sun (left), global managing director of strategic partnerships at IBM, spoke with theCUBE Research analysts Dave Vellante and Savannah Peterson at MWC Barcelona, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the intricacies of the two companies’ collaboration and explored how Zero Touch Mobility is set to reshape the future of enterprise mobility. (* Disclosure below.)

Bridging the gap: The evolution of enterprise mobility

With over three decades of partnership, spanning across diverse sectors of business, IBM and Samsung SDS’ latest venture unveils the future of enterprise mobility: Zero Touch Mobility. At its core, Zero Touch Mobility addresses a critical gap in digital transformation. Despite the rapid evolution of technology, mobile devices often lag behind, burdened by outdated systems and cumbersome support processes. IBM and Samsung SDS recognized this discrepancy and embarked on a mission to redefine the way enterprises deal with mobile infrastructure, according to Sun.

“Bringing this value to life for our enterprise clients is only done in collaboration with ecosystem partners,” she said. “This is a beautiful play between IBM and Samsung, but that integration across that broader ecosystem with ServiceNow in order to ignite value at scale, do it in a way that’s safe and secure and allows us to drive ongoing iterations of innovation is something that we’re really excited about.”

With the unveiling of Zero Touch Mobility, IBM and Samsung SDS aim to revolutionize enterprise mobility management, ushering in an era of unparalleled efficiency and security. Zero Touch Mobility represents a paradigm shift, leveraging AI, data analytics and seamless integration to streamline mobility management. By automating repetitive tasks and minimizing manual intervention, it promises to enhance efficiency, reduce support burdens and optimize productivity for enterprises worldwide, according to Kinlough.

“The amount of manual effort that’s required and the amount of places where there could be room for human error or things to fall through the cracks is massive,” he said. “If I’m the CISO or I’m the CIO, I’m not giving cloud access to my mobile devices because I can hardly manage email properly.”

The importance of Watson AI to enterprise mobility

Central to Zero Touch Mobility is the integration of Watson AI, IBM’s flagship cognitive computing platform. With its natural language interface and advanced analytics capabilities, Watson enables proactive support, predictive maintenance and personalized user experiences.

By harnessing historical data and real-time insights, it empowers enterprises to anticipate and address issues before they escalate, Sun explained.
