What to expect during the Dell ‘Building Cyber Resilience on Trusted Data Protection Infrastructure’ event: Join theCUBE April 30
Over the course of a few days in April, concerning events served as a reminder that implementing basic security practices, such as Dell Data Protection, has become ever more important.
Data breaches at Home Depot, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Indian audio company boAt generated headlines as reports filtered out on the potential impact for employees and users. And the telecommunications giant AT&T Inc. recently confirmed that personal data relating to 73 million of its past and present customers had been published on the dark web.
Incidents such as these highlight the need for cyber resilience at a time when major cybersecurity providers are looking to address “analysis paralysis” for customers facing uncertainty over how to protect critical systems and data in the enterprise.
To help bring the issue of data protection into sharper focus and hear the latest developments in the fight to safeguard critical information, theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, and Dell Technologies Inc. will present a special broadcast, “Building Cyber Resilience on Trusted Data Protection Infrastructure” on April 30 at 8:00 a.m. PT. Join theCUBE for this special coverage of Dell Technologies’ launch event to unveil the expansion of the Dell Data Protection portfolio and new capabilities, empowering organizations to establish a modern, simple and resilient foundation for data protection across on-premises, public clouds and the edge. “In today’s digital landscape, the imperative for cyber resilience cannot be overstated,” said Dave Vellante, chief analyst for theCUBE Research. “Data protection has evolved from being a side conversation into a fundamental component of cybersecurity strategies.”
Dell Data Protection addresses cross-platform security
The evolution of hybrid computing architectures, where data is often dispersed across on-premises, cloud and edge environments, is raising the risk level for many organizations, as IT staff must deal with increased operational complexity. Dell’s own research has shown that expanded management time involved in running cross-platform networks ranked among the top five cybersecurity concerns.
To address these challenges, Dell has launched a set of services and products designed to enhance cyber recovery control and provide greater visibility for vault operations. These included new software releases for PowerProtect Data Manager, Appliance, Cyber Recovery and the DD Operating System.
Dell has been focused on support for organizations that want simplified data protection and more IT self-service capabilities. The company has seen a realization among IT managers that data protection in the cloud is as critical as other elements of the hybrid infrastructure.
“Clients need to consider how they’re protecting data,” said Elizabeth Green, EMEA advisory and cyber lead at Dell, during a recent interview on theCUBE. “Just because it’s in the cloud doesn’t mean the cloud is protecting it, and there are clear guidelines around that. I think a lot of our clients think, ‘Someone else is managing it, so they must be protecting it.’”
Simplifying data protection in age of complexity
Dell executives have described the company’s approach to data protection as modern, simple and resilient. It’s the simple part, in today’s age of complex systems, that may be the most challenging.
Refinements to Dell’s PowerProtect DM5500 replaced the need to run software on a virtual machine and deploy a backup appliance. Now the backup appliance, software and server are all together, simplifying what was once a cumbersome process.
Dell has taken this same approach with APEX Backup Services, which don’t require an edge or on-premises framework. APEX provides data protection as-a-service and scales on demand in a pay-as-you-go model. TheCUBE’s special coverage of Dell’s launch event on April 30 will shed new light on how organizations are embracing data protection in today’s modern enterprise.
“Modernizing data protection policies, practices and tools is not just an option; it’s an imperative,” Vellante said. “Embracing advanced security measures helps safeguard critical data and fortifies digital defenses against an ever more capable adversary. A commitment to continuous improvement is the cornerstone of cyber modern cyber resilience.”
