Matt McLarty, CTO of Boomi, discusses tech innovation and how Boomi is helping companies integrate their data for AI models with theCUBE at Boomi World 2024 . AI

Boomi aims to put companies on solid ground for AI integration

Amid new acquisitions focused on productivity, innovation and artificial intelligence, Boomi LP is maintaining its commitment toward being a cradle and foundation for new technologies.

“Rather than us going into a room trying to build everything ourselves, we can help provide a place for them to run and generate value,” said Matt McLarty (pictured), chief technology officer of Boomi, which means ‘earth.’ “We’ve always had a great platform around connecting things and integrating things, but I think here’s a place where that specialized knowledge to build those AI functions, we can really provide a fertile ground. We provide the earth. We plant the seeds. We grow the garden.”

McLarty spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier and Savannah Peterson at Boomi World, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the future of AI integration and Boomi’s place in the generative AI landscape. (* Disclosure below.)

The ‘delicate dance’ of AI innovation

Boomi’s integration-as-a-platform-service product will now have a framework that allows customers to automate integration tasks using AI agents. Despite the hype around generative AI, the process of integrating models with one’s data draws on the same tools that have been around for some time, according to McLarty.

“Unless you’re writing limericks about cats, you’re going to want to ground these AI models with your data, your context,” he said. “This idea of gen AI orchestration is going to become more prominent, but it’s going to become pretty obvious that a platform like ours … is a building block, a foundational element for what you need to do.”

Boomi also acquired assets from APIIDA GmbH and Cloud Software Group Inc. that will help users better manage and orchestrate their application programming interfaces. For companies looking to ride the wave of AI innovation, predicting what enterprise customers need can be tricky.

“This is where the delicate dance comes in, because I think you’ve got to be really smart about understanding where things are going, but then even smarter about charting the path to get there,” McLarty said. “Look for the things that you can kind of bet on … You are always going to need to connect to your data.”

Centralizing one’s data so that it is providing maximum value to the company will be key, according to McLarty. The digital landscape is changing rapidly, but he has a reassuring message for companies worried about integrating AI into their business practices.

“If you’ve been following that digital transformation path where you’ve been actually digitizing, organizing, creating those channels, getting your data in order, knowing where your data is, getting your processes automated … you’re going to be way more ready to take advantage of AI,” he said. “The end goal is not AI. The end goal is getting the business value out of AI.”
