Telecom network modernization is taking center stage as the industry embraces transformative advancements highlighted at HPE Discover 2024.

Innovative technologies are propelling the sector forward, emphasizing the need for rapid adaptation. Telecom companies now face the challenge of evolving quickly while maintaining the reliability and integrity of their services, according to Anil Ganjoo (pictured, right), chief growth officer of HCL Technologies Ltd.

“Telcos are also evolving. There was a lot of tech debt that telcos have built up over time. They’re competing with the bond digital companies,” Ganjoo said. “This is where we are differentiating; we are helping them reduce their tech debt, number one. We are helping them modernize a lot of their platforms. In fact, this partnership is a lot about network transformation and modernization, simplification of things, modernization of platforms.”

Ganjoo and David Stark (left), general manager and vice president of Aruba networking telco solutions at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. spoke with theCUBE Research’s Dave Vellante and Rebecca Knight at HPE Discover, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the modernization and innovation within the telecom industry through strategic partnerships and the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and private 5G. Strategic partnerships driving telecom network modernization

The partnership between HCL and HPE is pivotal in transforming telecom networks, addressing the industry’s need to modernize and innovate rapidly. The complexity and scale of telecom operations necessitate robust and flexible solutions, which the partnership aims to deliver, according to Stark.

“The obvious short answer is speed. And part of that is enterprises put in systems and technology for their own use. It’s a single customer. Obviously, you have more complexity in some enterprises, but in general, that is, telcos worry about providing services across everything,” he said. “That is a much harder thing to do in terms of providing a reliable service…it needs to often come with a lot more thought and heavy lifting and that’s why speed is different.”

The collaboration with HPE includes joint investments in labs for developing AI and private 5G solutions. These collaborative efforts aim to accelerate the deployment of advanced solutions, enabling telcos to offer innovative services and maintain a competitive edge, Ganjoo concluded.

“We are combining the two strengths of both the companies, their products and experience and all the service offerings,” he said. “We’ve got joint labs in which we are discussing making investments, building these, not just proof of values, but some things which we will take to the customers, build their business case and then make it easy for them to deploy at scale.”
