SUSE enhances edge computing with new releases focused on scalability and efficiency

Open-source enterprise software firm SUSE S.A. today announced the release of two major updates designed to enhance edge computing capabilities for enterprises and telecommunications providers.

The new solutions are aimed at streamlining operations, improving scalability and providing long-term support while also allowing organizations to deploy innovations faster and more efficiently at the edge. The updates also address key challenges in security, lifecycle management and performance.

The first update, SUSE Edge 3.1, enables easier cloud-native edge computing and allows enterprises to deploy innovations faster and improve operational efficiency at the edge, according to the company. The new version introduces a cloud-native edge platform designed to reduce latency, process data locally and offer real-time insights with the support of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.

SUSE Edge 3.1 tackles the complexities of managing large-scale edge device deployments through a flexible platform that supports fully automated deployment and lifecycle management for tens of thousands of devices. SUSE says the capability ensures enterprises can efficiently manage operations across highly distributed environments, optimizing the performance of their edge infrastructure.

The platform features tailored, validated designs for industry-specific use cases that significantly reduce ramp-up time and ensure consistent performance. Edge 3.1 also supports x86-64 and Arm64 systems to provide the flexibility needed to meet diverse hardware requirements while maintaining operational consistency.

Additionally, Edge 3.1 offers best-in-class compliance features that extend risk management capabilities. Enterprises can leverage the security enhancements in the new release to protect their edge deployments and ensure data integrity, even in highly distributed and remote environments.

The second update today, SUSE Adaptive Telco Infrastructure Platform 3.1, is pitched as enhancing telco operations through optimized cloud infrastructure.

SUSE ATIP 3.1 has been designed to reduce costs and accelerate revenue generation for communication service providers through a lightweight, open-source telco cloud layer that hosts virtualized and container-based network functions. The service also supports edge applications needed for 5G workloads and broadband access.

The updated service streamlines operations by offering a unified platform that simplifies the deployment and management of telco cloud infrastructure and in doing so, allows telecom providers to reduce complexity and improve efficiency. Through the service’s use of open-source architecture, users also gain ensured flexibility with providers able to adopt best-of-breed vendors while maintaining stringent performance standards for telco workloads.

ATIP 3.1 is also aligned with industry initiatives aimed at enhancing edge interoperability, such as Project Sylva, ensuring seamless integration across telecom ecosystems. Offered with 24 months of long-term support, ATIP 3.1 offers a reliable, scalable solution for CSPs looking to expand edge services and optimize their network performance.
