New Akamai Account Protector features target advanced fraud detection across user accounts
Content delivery network and cloud services provider Akamai Technologies Inc. today launched new capabilities for its Account Protector security solution designed to power the fight against fraud and abuse.
The new enhancements offer enhanced safeguards for user accounts against abuse throughout their entire lifecycle and provide advanced protection against account opening abuse, account takeover attacks and other attack schemes. For organizations, the new capabilities allow for the protection of accounts from the moment they are created through password resets, logins and all post-login activities.
Akamai argues that in today’s threat landscape, a single security check at login or transaction is no longer enough. To stop malicious activity and abuse, Akamai says it’s essential to analyze risk in real-time and continuously monitor accounts throughout their entire lifecycle for signs of suspicious behavior as they happen.
“As the cybersecurity landscape evolves, so do the tactics of fraudsters,” said Rupesh Chokshi, senior vice president and general manager of application security at Akamai. “Traditional static risk assessments at login are no longer sufficient to counter sophisticated account abuse threats.”
Akamai’s Account Protector now gathers and analyzes risk signals throughout an account’s lifecycle and initiates automated responses to balance security and user experience. New lifecycle protection features released today assess user risk at each stage, from account creation to post-login actions like updates, password changes and payments to enable organizations to address threats at every interaction.
The solution offers flexible risk management that allows organizations to adjust security measures according to risk tolerance and business needs. In the case that suspicious users are detected, Account Protector delivers additional security steps while trusted users experience a smoother journey, an approach that supports both robust protection and a positive user experience.
Additionally, advanced application programming interface operations and risk detection offered through the service focus on critical post-login activities to enhance security where it matters most. The tool can detect unauthorized account updates, abnormal password changes and fraudulent transactions during payments to help businesses respond proactively to sophisticated threats.
“These enhancements to Account Protector provide continuous risk assessments and help customers detect subtle behavioral changes that could signal impersonation or fraudulent activity,” Chokshi added.
