Citrix strengthens zero-trust security with acquisitions of deviceTRUST and strong.network

Citrix Systems Inc., a business unit of Cloud Software Group Inc., today announced that it has made two strategic acquisitions aimed at addressing the challenge of providing robust zero-trust security for hybrid work environments.

The company acquired deviceTRUST GmbH and strong.network SA, both companies that specialize in security technology designed to provide zero-trust security for hybrid environments. DeviceTRUST GmbH focuses on real-time contextual access solutions for virtual desktop infrastructure and desktop as a service, while strong.network SA provides secure cloud development environments with robust data protection features.

The acquisitions are focused on strengthening security on the Citrix platform. They can allow it to isolate and protect access to mission-critical applications deployed across on-premises and cloud environments while ensuring developers have access to cloud development environments.

Founded in 2016, deviceTRUST offers a central contextual platform for enterprises to secure their digital workspaces. The company’s solutions allow users to access company data and applications from any location, device and network while ensuring compliance with security, compliance and regulatory requirements.

The company’s technology continuously monitors the context of access, such as device posture and user location, to enforce dynamic access controls. The real-time assessment is designed to allow information technology departments to grant or revoke access based on current security conditions and, in the process, enhance data protection and reduce risks associated with remote work.

Through the integration of deviceTRUST’s contextual security solutions, organizations can implement zero-trust strategies to ensure that only compliant devices and users can access sensitive resources.

The second acquisition, strong.network, brings to Citrix a company that specializes in providing secure cloud development environments to enhance the efficiency and security of distributed software development teams. Founded in 2020 and based in Lausanne, Switzerland, it offers a self-hosted platform that enables organizations to manage ready-to-code Linux development environments accessible from any device.

Strong.network’s platform leverages software containers to allow enterprises to centralize the management of development environments to improve developer productivity and safeguard intellectual property. The company’s approach addresses challenges associated with remote work and “bring your own device” policies by ensuring that source code and sensitive data remain protected against leaks and unauthorized access.

The company’s platform also integrates with various development tools and supports compliance with security standards, such as the International Organization for Standardization’s standard for information security management systems 27001 and those from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, to provide real-time monitoring and governance metrics throughout the application lifecycle.

Coming into their acquisitions, deviceTRUST had raised venture capital from High-Tech Gründerfonds Management GmbH and Hessen Capital GmbH up to Series A, but the amounts were not disclosed. Strong.network had raised $5.47 million in a single round from OpenOcean Management Oy and Founderful GmbH.

“As businesses continue to evolve to support hybrid work, the demand for cyber resilience has only intensified,” Sridhar Mullapudi, executive vice president and general manager of Citrix, said in a statement.
