Illumio launches AI-powered cloud detection and response solution

Breach containment company Illumio Inc. today announced the launch of Illumio Insights, a cloud detection and response solution powered entirely by an artificial intelligence security graph.

The new Illumio Insights can observe and protect every workload and resource, including across hybrid and multicloud environments. The service provides AI-powered observability into an organization’s traffic, flows and connections, surfacing risk throughout the connected landscape.

The service helps Security Operations Center analysts, incident responders and threat hunters uncover hidden risks by observing all flows and connections and discovering risky, malicious and anomalous activity. Insights visualizes dangerous traffic and behavior and prioritizes lateral movement risks across environments, allowing for rapid detection and response.

Any threats that are discovered can be dynamically quarantined, with affected workloads completely isolated. Doing so reduces the blast radius and significantly boosts resilience, the company says.

Key benefits of Insights include rapid cloud-scale deployment through a push-button, agentless approach that delivers AI-powered security insights across millions of workloads in minutes, giving organizations immediate visibility without the complexity of traditional implementations.

The service also enhances threat detection with AI observability, uncovering hidden threats and attack paths to reduce the mean time to detect. Supported by one-click attack containment, Insights swiftly neutralizes risks, cutting down the mean time to respond and streamlining incident response.

“When an organization is under attack, understanding the connectivity graph is crucial,” said founder and Chief Executive Andrew Rubin. “Bringing together the Illumio security graph with the AI-driven Illumio Insights analytics pipeline allows organizations, for the first time, to understand how threats and risks are moving through their environment.”

The Illumio security graph used in the offering allows Insights to ingest network flow and resource data at cloud scale, automatically classify traffic and resources and immediately find risks. The graph assists security teams in forming a full picture of attacker movement across the entire environment, all while driving faster, more informed response decisions, according to the company.

Illumio is a venture capital-backed company that has raised $556 million over seven rounds, including rounds of $100 million in 2015, $125 million in 2017, $65 million in 2019 and $225 million in 2021. Investors in the company include Andreessen Horowitz, Accel Partners, General Catalyst Group Management, 8VC, Thoma Bravo LP, Franklin Templeton Companies, DCVC, Blue Owl Capital Inc., Hamilton Lane Inc. and J.P. Morgan Asset Management Inc.
