Cequence expands Unified API Protection platform to secure agentic AI interactions

Application programming interface security company Cequence Security Inc. today announced major upgrades to its Unified API Protection platform, which secures agentic AI development, usage and interactions.

The new enhancements are designed to allow organizations to secure every AI agent interaction, regardless of the development framework. The solution protects both enterprise-hosted AI applications and external AI APIs, preventing sensitive data exfiltration through business logic abuse and ensuring regulatory compliance through the implementation of robust guardrails.

The enhancements seek to address concerns about securing sensitive data in agentic AI applications. Cequence argues that AI-driven exchanges can inadvertently expose internal systems, create significant vulnerabilities and jeopardize valuable data assets.

To take on the challenge, Cequence has expanded its UAP platform with an enhanced security layer to govern interactions between AI agents and backend services specifically. The new layer of security allows customers to detect and prevent AI bots such as ChatGPT and Perplexity from harvesting organizational data.

Cequence’s updated UAP platform introduces controls to block unauthorized AI data harvesting. With the update, organizations can now decide which AI systems, if any, are allowed to interact with their proprietary data, preventing unapproved external models from collecting sensitive information.

The platform also enhances protection against data exposure by identifying and stopping both internal and external agentic AI from accessing or leaking sensitive information. Its intelligent analysis distinguishes between legitimate usage and suspicious activity, ensuring AI-related data loss is proactively addressed.

To manage the growing presence of shadow AI, Cequence’s Unified API Protection platform now automatically discovers and classifies APIs from tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Salesforce Agentforce. The unified visibility delivers the ability to detect and mitigate risks from both third-party AI and internal AI applications in one place.

Additionally, the new enhancements support seamless integration with DevOps workflows, enabling the automatic generation of OpenAPI specs and the enforcement of robust security policies. The platform operates without third-party dependencies, helping organizations strengthen security while simplifying deployment and management.

“Agentic AI introduces a new layer of complexity, where every agent behaves like a bidirectional API,” said Chief Executive Ameya Talwalkar. “That’s our wheelhouse. Our platform helps organizations embrace innovation at scale without sacrificing governance, compliance, or control.”

The expanded capabilities will be generally available to Cequence customers in June.
