10Web’s generative AI website builder is now accessible via an API

10Web Inc., the developer of a technology that builds websites on the open-source WordPress platform from generative artificial intelligence prompts, today is adding an application programming interface option that developers can use to integrate website generation into existing applications and workflows.

The API makes it possible, for example, for marketers to generate a special-purpose website on the fly as part of a promotional campaign. About 80% of 10Web’s customers are small businesses, the rest primarily website developers.

10Web essentially replaces the native WordPress website builder with a chat front-end that lets users specify layout, images and functions in natural language. Generative AI can be used to create and edit unique page structures, business-specific designs, content, functions and visuals. The resulting websites are customizable and can incorporate e-commerce functionality based on WooCommerce, an open-source e-commerce plugin for WordPress.

“The final site is mobile-friendly, search-optimized and hosted by us,” said Arto Minasyan, founder and CEO of 10Web. “We take care of all the tech stuff, such as backup and security.” 10Web offers a monthly hosting program starting at $10, but users can also migrate finished websites to other Internet service providers. Pricing for use of the API starts at five dollars per site.

10Web says its platform uses a network of specialized AI agents, each trained to perform specific tasks inside the website builder. The agents are driven by large language models from OpenAI, Anthropic PBC and Google LLC.

Minasyan said 10Web can handle virtually any aspect of website design and functionality using a chat interface. “A user can prompt to add a form with specified following fields, make it mobile-friendly and send the input from the form to my email,” he said. “They can take a screenshot of a website they like and we generate the code.”

10Web positions itself as a more open alternative to popular website builders such as Shopify Inc. and Squarespace Inc., which offer similar features on proprietary platforms. “WordPress and open source give power and ownership to users,” Minasyan said. “We also rely on the WordPress ecosystem of products. There are 60,000 plugins users can explore.”

WordPress is used by 61% of all websites whose content management system is known and 43.5% of all websites overall, according to W3Techs, a service of  W3Q-Success DI Gelbmann GmbH.

Minasyan said he envisions the API being used by software-as-a-service platforms to integrate website creation into their products, marketing platforms they want to embed site creation and workflows and developers looking to speed delivery of finished websites.

10Web claims to have generated more than 2 million websites on its platform since the company’s founding in 2020. It has raised $5 million in seed funding and says it’s profitable.
