AI as a workforce engine: How intelligent systems are redefining human capability

The next wave of innovation isn’t about replacing people — it’s about amplifying them. As artificial intelligence evolves from a tool into a trusted collaborator, a new movement is taking shape: AI-powered human potential, where technology becomes the ultimate accelerator for human capability.

By fusing human creativity, intuition and emotional intelligence with AI’s precision and speed, companies such as r.Potential Inc. — in partnership with Salesforce Inc. — are proving how this synergy can transform the modern workforce. From accelerating learning to improving decision-making, the fusion of human and machine is redefining what it means to perform, lead and create in the modern era, according to Greg Shewmaker (pictured, left), chief executive officer of r.Potential.

Greg Shewmaker, chief executive officer of r.Potential Inc., and Denis Machuel, chief executive officer of The Adecco Group, talk with theCUBE during Dreamforce 2025 about how AI-powered human potential is transforming the future of work and the way r.Potential is leading the charge.

TheCUBE talks with r.Potential’s Greg Shewmaker and Adecco Group’s Denis Machuel about the transformative impact of AI-powered human potential.

The whole idea is to strengthen and secure the full potential of humans with AI,” Shewmaker said. “Humans as the sort of main actor, AI as a supporting cast … that was the idea. We need to start sort of deliberately creating new ways to protect and ultimately elevate humans in this whole thing. AI was going to have a profound effect on the workforce, there’s no doubt about that, but we needed to start with the human, not start with the technology.”

Shewmaker and Denis Machuel (right), CEO of The Adecco Group, spoke with theCUBE’s Dave Vellante and George Gilbert at Dreamforce, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how AI-powered human potential is transforming the future of work and the way r.Potential is leading the charge. (* Disclosure below.)

The role of digital workers in boosting AI-powered human potential

A digital worker — an AI system built to collaborate with humans, learn continuously and earn trust over time — enhances AI-powered human potential by becoming a dependable teammate that amplifies creativity, decision-making and emotional intelligence. Accelerating efforts to build an operating system where human and digital workers can thrive together, r.Potential, a spin-out of The Adecco Group, is shaping a future of seamless collaboration between people and machines, Machuel pointed out.

“Our purpose is to make the future work for everyone, and everything that we’re building here is about making sure that humans are not being replaced but augmented,” he said. “That means a future that is bound to create a human-centric AI workplace. We believe that what we have to achieve is to create these digital workers that work in symbiosis with the human workers. That’s the power of what we’re creating with r.Potential, the standard of digital workers, but also the way they’re going to interact with the human world.”

Building strong human–machine relationships is essential to unlocking AI-powered human potential. Trust enables people to rely on AI’s insights and decisions, while digital workers serve as the vital bridge between human and machine intelligence — translating human intent into AI action and turning AI outputs into meaningful insights, Shewmaker explained.

“AI introduces a whole new category of risk and responsibility,” he said. “We know it hallucinates, we know it has biases, it gives unpredictable answers … so do humans. If you think about AI much more as a worker versus software, I think that’s starting off on the right path. If you can build these human machine relationships, that’s where we talk about organizational potential.”

Born from a collaboration between The Adecco Group and Salesforce, r.Potential represents a bold experiment in reimagining the future of work through AI-powered workforce innovation — from intelligent agents to digital coworkers. Recognizing how AI is reshaping human roles, the partners set out to create solutions that blend human insight with machine capability, building a more efficient and human-centered workplace, Machuel pointed out.

“When you talk about the right resources in the times of AI, you understand that the magnitude of change that is necessary to have agents and digital workers come into the workforce is so big that you have to do something differently,” he added. “It all started with what we did with Salesforce. We did a killer company workshop to reinvent how we could disrupt ourselves, and we came up with this concept of r.Potential. The best way to disrupt ourselves was to launch that company outside, even though we are the shareholder together with Salesforce.”
